How to style curly hair? The cold winter months can give you dry, frizzy hair, which can make you skeptical about getting your hair styled, so what do we do.

Part 1
Choosing the right hairstyle

Curly hair sounds the same, but in reality curly hair is not the same as frizzy hair. Curls can range from loose waves to tight, kinky curls.
Wavy hair will sit flat on top of the head better. This is the ideal position to shape wavy hair.
Tight hair needs to be cut without pulling the hair strands. Cutting it while the hair is still forming curls is the easiest way to get the desired shape, too long or too short.

You should wash your hair before you go to the salon. This will keep both hair clean and dry. Because the best way to cut curls is to dry your hair, you should have taken steps to clean your hair before showing up.
You want to keep your hair in the best moisturized condition possible, preferably with a deep moisturizing treatment once a week. This helps your stylist plan the best regimen for you.

The step is to cut before coloring because curly hair is different from straight hair and curly hair should be cut before any coloring or highlighting is done. Coloring or dyeing may leave hair damp and without good volume.

Have your stylist layer your hair. The top is flat, while the bottom is extended in all directions. Layers do not have to be too dense, but the longer your hair is, the more layers should be added.

Part 2
Getting Ready

The first step is to prepare a shampoo and conditioner that contains keratin. This is because keratin will keep your hair frizz-free. Also be careful that the shampoo does not contain sulfates. If you can’t find a shampoo that contains keratin, then look for one that is relatively mild and moisturizing, because curly hair is on the dry side.

Leave a little bit of conditioner in your hair when you wash it, which means when you shower, don’t rinse your hair thoroughly after using conditioner. This will keep your hair in ideal condition.
You can also opt for a leave-in conditioner, which is also a good option. They can help keep your hair moisturized throughout the day, especially during the very dry days of winter.

Find a white or non-fading cotton t-shirt to dry your hair instead of using a towel. This is because towels can create too much static electricity. After your shower, put a shirt on your head. You can simply place your forehead over the neck opening of the shirt and put it on your head. Keep your hair wrapped in the t-shirt.

Check the weather forecast. Before deciding how to comb your hair, it’s a good idea to check the weather. The dryness of the weather will determine your next plan.

Know that nothing can be planned, so you need to have a backup plan. For example when you are short of time or your hair is in bad condition, then changing your hairstyle or wearing accessories such as headbands, coils and braids can be a good solution. If your hair is curly, it’s a good idea to consider buying a hair accessory you like to cover your hair or learning how to do various braids to spruce up your hairstyle.

Part 3

Avoid using a comb to comb your hair, the reason is that the comb will comb the curls away, this will cause the volume of the curls to become extremely fluffy, so you want to keep your curls natural, do not go combing away the curls, if you wash your hair or after a shower, use a hair dryer to dry your hair, do not use a comb, just use your fingers to gently scratch your hair.

Use moisturizer products to fight frizz in dry weather, and anti-moisturizers that repel moisture when the outside air is humid. Also you need to be aware of what weather can strongly affect your curls, such as humidity, dryness, and temperature.
Avoid moisturizers in the winter when the humidity is high and your hair will need all the moisture it can get. Use leave-in conditioners and light styling products.
When the humidity is not between high and low, you will need to do some experimenting to see what products work best. Moisturizers may or may not be beneficial to your hair.
When the humidity is very high. You should avoid using leave-in conditioners. Instead stick with something like a moisturizing cream to keep your hair manageable. You should avoid moisturizers because there is a lot of moisture in the air.

If your hair is long, you may want to drape a larger silk scarf over your shoulders to keep your clothes clean.

Let your hair dry completely. Your hair may still look wet and crunchy. Resist the urge to touch your hair. Touching your hair can cause friction between your hair and make it frizzy.
Use a diffuser to blow dry your hair faster. Set the diffuser to high heat and low speed. High heat will help dry your hair quickly. Keeping the speed on low will prevent your hair from getting blown out.

If you are using a hair dryer, lightly scrunch your curls and rub them with the same force you would use to knead a piece of paper. Do this until the hair feels soft again, then stop. Excessive kneading will make your hair more prone to frizz.

If needed, “fix” the curls with a curling iron. If one curl is out of direction, get out your curling iron and get it fixed. However, keep in mind that heat can do a lot of damage to curls, so you’ll have to decide for yourself how far to go.
