3 Anti-Aging Hairstyles for Black Women Over 30
If you’re a woman over 30, choosing a visually appealing, age-appropriate and low-maintenance hairstyle can be a bit challenging. Here are 3 fabulous and fierce hairstyles for black women over 30 that are sure to meet your needs and wants!
1. Loose and light spiral curls
This hairstyle is surely one of the classics. It has been worn by many celebrities. You will love how easy it is to create the same look for yourself.
Loose and light spiral curls
How to style.
Make sure your hair is pre-washed, conditioned and blow-dried.
Set your hair aside.
Divide the hair into 4 sections (from the forehead to the back of the neck and from ear to ear); use bobby pins to securely hold the hair in place.
Select the section of hair to be treated; once a section is selected, release the bobby pins from the section and use a fishtail comb to select a small amount of hair, then re-trim the remaining hair.
Begin straightening your hair with the iron, pinning it to the roots and extending it down to the ends of the sectioned hair – your movements should be smooth and steady as you flatten the hair. Make sure you don’t leave the iron on any part of your hair for too long; doing so will cause puckering. Repeat steps 3-4 until all hair has been flattened.
Using a curling iron, clip the curling iron to the end of your hair and begin to curl it, then wrap it securely around your hair. Hold the iron in a vertical position for 5 seconds, then release from the hair.
Once all hair is curled, run your fingers through the curls and spray with a light, flexible styling spray.

2. Smooth and silky curls
This glamorous style happens to be one of my favorites.
Sleek and smooth curls
How to style.
1. Make sure hair is pre-washed, conditioned and blow dried.
Add a generous amount of wrapping foam to the hair
Separate hair into 4 sections (from forehead to nape and from ear to ear); use bobby pins/clips to securely hold hair in place.
Select the section of hair to be treated; once a section is selected, release the bobby pins from the section and select a small amount of hair, using a fishtail comb, then re-trim the remaining hair.
Apply a large 5/8 inch spiral rod to the hair by wrapping/twisting the ends of the hair around the spiral rod. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all hair sections are completed.
Leave rollers in place for 2-3 hours before removing. For best results, use a hooded dryer to heat and shape hair into curls. The hooded dryer should be set on medium-high heat for 30-55 minutes.
Remove the rollers and separate the curls once, dividing each curl into two sections. Arrange the curls according to the curls in the photo.
Recommended Products.
I recommend silicone heat protection treatment.
Best face shapes and hairstyles.
Square, round, oval, diamond and heart shaped faces suit this style.
3. Straight Bob Cut
This hairstyle is perfect for women with long hair who want to cut it short for the first time. This hairstyle is not too long and not too short.
Straight Bob Cut
How to Style.
Clean and condition the hair; this will create a smooth and sleek look for the Bob.
Towel dry hair and then apply silicone heat protection to damp hair.
Blow dry hair directly using a hair dryer with a comb attachment – this attachment can be found and purchased at your local beauty supply store.
Separate hair into 4 sections (from forehead to nape and from ear to ear); use bobby pins to securely hold hair in place
Select a section (from the 4 sections created) to work on. Once a section is selected, release the bobby pins from the section and use a fishtail comb to remove a small amount of hair, then re-trim the remaining hair.
Start straightening the hair with the iron, clip the iron to the root and extend it down to the end of the sectioned hair – your movements should be smooth and steady as you flatten the hair. Make sure not to leave the iron on any part of the hair for too long: doing so will cause creases. Repeat steps 3-4 until the entire hair has been flattened.
Set the hair aside, then bulge (bend/curl) the ends of the hair by securing the iron to the ends and bending the iron inwards, then releasing the hair from the iron.
Recommended Products.
I recommend using a silicone heat protection treatment.
