How to Apply Lipstick

Preparation

Exfoliate your lips. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, making your lips smoother, softer and easier to apply makeup. Take a few seconds to exfoliate your lips by gently brushing them with a toothbrush or by rubbing them with a damp washcloth. Mix equal parts of oil and sugar together for a natural lip scrub. Use it to exfoliate your lips.
Jojoba oil, olive oil and coconut oil can all be used to make lip scrubs. If you don’t like oil, you can use honey instead.

Moisturize your lips with a lip balm. Open the lip balm stick and apply to the upper and lower lips. If the lip balm comes in a box, you can use your fingers to apply it. Applying lip balm will not only make your lips softer and smoother, but it will also make your lip liner and lipstick apply more evenly. Wait a few minutes after applying the lip balm, during which you can finish the rest of your face first.
Try to choose a lip balm that is waxy and does not contain oil. This type of lip balm is less likely to leave an oil residue.

Wipe off lip balm as appropriate. Before applying any lipstick and lip liner, check if there is still lip balm left on your lips. If there is, you can wipe it off with a tissue or cotton swab. Residual lip balm can make lips look too smooth for lipsticks and lip liners to go on.

Consider priming your lips with foundation. Priming with foundation can better reveal the color of the lipstick itself, but this step is not necessary. The foundation used to prime the lips should be the same color as the foundation used for the cheeks and should also be applied with a powder puff. Keep smiling while applying foundation to the lips so that you can apply it to all the crevices on the lips.

Choose a lip liner. Lip liner is very important. Using a lip liner primer will “grab” the lipstick firmly and make it last longer. Not only that, it also makes the lipstick apply more evenly and prevents smudging.
If you are going to use a bold lipstick color, choose a lip liner that is slightly darker than the color of your lipstick. This will deepen the color of the lipstick and make it appear fuller.
If you’ve primed your lips with foundation beforehand, or if you want to give a nude look, choose a lip liner based on the color of your lips.

Draw a lip liner. The way you draw your lip liner can change the shape of your lips. You can use a lip liner to make your lips bigger, smaller, rounder or wider. Start by outlining your lips with a lip liner and then fill in the lips. The following are methods and suggestions for using lip liner.
Use a lip liner on the inside of your original lip line if you want to make your lips look smaller. Apply concealer around your lips to cover your original lip line.
Use a lip liner on the outside of your lip line if you want to make your lips look bigger. But the line should still be drawn close to your original lip line.
To make your lips look wider, use a lip liner along the original lip line, but draw a little beyond the corners of your mouth. For narrower lips, use the liner only on the inside of the corners of your mouth and use concealer to cover up the unlined areas.
If you want to make the upper or lower lip look fuller, use a lip liner on the outside of that lip. When lining the rest of the lips, do not go beyond the original lip line.
Want to make your lips look softer and more natural? Use your finger to tap the lip line at the corners of your mouth. This will soften all the edges of your lips.

Applying Lipstick

Consider choosing a lipstick that suits your skin tone. If you know what shade or composition of lipstick best suits your skin tone and skin type, the lipstick will come out more satisfying. When choosing a lipstick, keep the following points in mind.
If you have a darker skin tone, choose a bold color that will both match your skin tone and provide a sharp contrast. If you have a lighter skin tone, a light pink or other lighter color will suffice. For neutral skin tones, mauve, light mahogany or plum would be more appropriate.
Matte lipsticks are not recommended if you have dry lips, as matte lipsticks can make your lips even drier. Look for lipsticks that have emollient or skin care benefits, or use a lip primer to block your lips from the lipstick.
If your lips are thin and you want to make it look bigger, don’t choose a lipstick that is very dark in color. Dark lipsticks will make the lips look smaller.

Apply lipstick. Start by applying it from the center of your lips and then smear it outward, filling in all the gaps on your lips. You can apply the tube lipstick directly. For precise application, you can also use a brush to apply the color.

Apply a second layer of lipstick. While the first layer of lipstick is meant to be a base, a second layer of lipstick gives a more vibrant color and a longer lasting effect.

Remove the lipstick from inside your lips. Stick your index finger into your mouth, wrap your lips around your index finger, and then pull your index finger out. Doing so will prevent the lipstick from sticking to your teeth.

Put some powder on your lips to make it stay on longer. Tear the napkin into two thin layers, put one of the layers on your mouth, and then pat your lips with a clear setting powder. Remove the napkin and apply another layer of lipstick to your lips.

Touch up the edges of your lips with concealer. Choose a concealer that suits your skin tone, then dab the concealer with a brush that has a finer tip. Outline your lips with the concealer, then brush the concealer outward so that it blends well with your foundation. This will not only give you a sharp lip line but also prevent your lip makeup from smudging.

Consider using a highlighter to apply the mid-personal end. This will emphasize the natural lines of the lips. Use a white or ivory highlighter to simply outline the end of the mannequin, and the highlighter should be used on the outside of the lips, not inside them.

Add a little shine to the lips with lip gloss. This step is not necessary, but it will make your lips look shinier, brighter, and fuller. You don’t need to apply lip gloss all over your lips, just in the middle of your lower lip properly.

Try a variety of classic lip makeup

Use two different colors of lipsticks to give your lips a fuller look. Start by applying your usual lipstick to the entire lip area, then apply a slightly lighter color to the middle of your upper and lower lips. Mix the two colors properly so that they transition naturally. You can also use a highlighter instead of a lighter lipstick.

Remove the shine from your lipstick with a blush of a similar color. Choose a matte blush powder that is similar in color to your lipstick. After applying lip liner and lipstick, dip your finger into the blush powder and press it on your lips. Keep applying the blush all over your lips like this until the lipstick turns completely matte.
Do not use blushers with glitter.
Not all colors of lipsticks are suitable for this method. Some lipsticks may not find a blush of similar color to match.
If you can’t find a blush in the right color, you can also use a matte eyeshadow in the right color instead.

Create a gradient lip. Choose a lip liner that is darker than the color of your lipstick. First outline your lips with the lip liner and then fill in the entire lip with lipstick. To create a little more exaggerated gradient effect, you can use a lighter color lipstick to paint the very middle of your lips. Finish by applying a colorless lip gloss to your lips to make all the colors blend together better.
To create a gradient effect from dark to light from the inside out, outline your lips with a lip liner that is lighter than the lipstick color. Then fill in the lips with the lipstick. For a more dramatic gradient effect, use a darker lipstick for the very middle part of the lips.

Create a rose lip. This dainty and chic look was very popular in the 1920s in the United States. You can’t go wrong with a rose lip if you want to try a new look when attending a theme party or a rave night. Outline the lip line in the middle of your lips and intentionally leave the corners of your mouth out. Fill in the inside of the lip line with a big red lipstick. Then match your rose lips with a 1930s finger curl wavy hair.

Try a goth lip. Choose a dark lipstick in black, dark red or reddish brown. Choose a lip liner that matches the color of your lipstick to outline your lips. Fill in your entire lip with lip liner and then apply another layer of lipstick. Finish off your look with a gothic outfit and hairstyle to match.

Tips
Keep your lipstick, lip liner and lip gloss handy for touch-ups or in case of accidental color loss.
You can use any color you want. Whatever works for you is good.
Confidence is the key to holding up a bright, new lipstick color.
After applying lipstick, put a napkin on your lips and pat your lips with setting powder. Remove the napkin and apply another layer of lipstick. This will make your lipstick last longer.
If your lips are particularly dry, consider using a tinted lip balm. It will not only moisturize your lips, but it will also properly color them.
If you have a badly smudged mouth, you can use a clear lip liner with it. Clear lip liner contains a lot of waxy ingredients that will prevent lipstick from smudging beyond the lip line. Apply clear lip liner to the outer edge of your lips to prevent smudging and also to cover up fine lines.
Apply white highlighter or white pearlescent eye shadow to the middle of the person. It will make your lips look fuller.
A lip primer moisturizes your lips and prevents direct contact between your lips and lipstick. With this layer of protection, your lipstick will last longer and your lips will not dry out as easily.
If you are going to drink something, you can use a lip tint. Lip tints can ease the sticky cups.
Lipstick is not necessary for all occasions. A nude lip is actually good if you are going out for a day with friends. It can also show off the cutest you.
