How to choose the right hair color
When you dye your hair it’s easy to choose a color you like, but hard to choose the right one. You have to consider a lot of factors, like skin tone, hair color itself and eye color, etc. This article can help you make the right choice.
Method 1 Planning your style
1
Think about what you want. Do you want to change the color of your hair a little to make it look more vibrant, or do you want to make a big, dramatic change? But before you color your hair, find out if your company or school allows hair coloring.
2
Collect some pictures of the hair color you want. Cut them out of magazines, save them on your phone or computer, and show them to your hairdresser to help you get the exact color you want.
3
Before you dye your hair, see if you need a haircut. Generally speaking, you should cut and then dye your hair. For one thing, it saves you money, as your hair is cut shorter, so you naturally use less dye. Secondly, you will be able to see the effect of the new look immediately after the hair is dyed.
4
The time and money spent on hair care should also be taken into consideration. If your chosen color is much different from your own hair color, such as going from black to yellow, then you will need to dye your roots regularly to maintain your look. But if you pick a color that is similar to your hair color, then there is not much of a concern about regular maintenance.
Method 2 Combine with your own color
1
There are many ways to determine the tone of your skin, and the first is to look at the color of your veins. First, stand in a place with good natural light, raise your arm, palm up, and look towards your wrist. Look through your skin to see what color your blood vessels are.
If your veins look blue, you have a cool skin tone.
If your veins look green, your skin tone is warm.
2
If you still can’t identify your skin tone by the color of your blood vessels, or if you want to reconfirm the tone of your skin, try using colored paper. Have yellow, red, white, green, silver and blue paper ready, one at a time, to compare with the skin of your face.
If your skin tone looks better when paired with red and yellow paper, then you have a warm skin tone.
If your skin tone looks better with white, green, silver and blue paper, then you have a cool skin tone.
3
The color of your eyes is closely related to your hair color choice and is one of the factors to consider. If you don’t know how to choose, ask your hairstylist what color will make your eyes look better.
If you have brown or light brown eyes, then a darker shade of brown range is good for you, chocolate brown and dark coffee brown are recommended.
If you have blue or gray eyes, cooler colors like light gold or granny gray are good choices.
Method 3 Choose the right hair color
1
Brown is arguably the safest color, unlike red, blonde, black, etc., almost everyone can find a brown color that suits them. Brown is the easiest to maintain, no need for frequent touch-ups, and hair dyes of this color are available everywhere. Also, brown looks shiny in the sun and can effectively cover up damaged hair and make it look better.
If you have a lighter skin tone, you can choose a medium-depth brown or a brown with a hint of red. It is not recommended to choose a dark brown unless this is your original hair color because dark brown can make your face look pale.
If your skin is not too dark and not too white, medium depth browns like caramel and russet are still recommended. Light browns and such are not suitable.
If you have darker skin, try darker browns. Any brown that is two or more shades lighter than your skin tone should not be tried.
2
Similar to brown, red is also a versatile color. But different skin tones suit different shades of red.
Lighter skin tones are suitable for lighter reds such as slightly reddish blondes and coppery reds, while deeper reds like deep fuchsia can make the face look pale.
For medium skin tones, choose a medium-depth copper or a not-too-dark and not-too-light shade like russet. Avoid purple shades such as deep purple that will make you look more yellow.
Those with darker skin should try a medium depth of russet or chestnut brown. Steer clear of particularly red colors, as they will make your skin tone reddish.
3
Blonde is also a commonly chosen hair color. Some people are naturally blonde and dye their hair to make it a little lighter, while others want to try a new look. As long as your skin tone is not very dark, blonde is a good choice. But blonde hair is expensive to maintain afterwards. It requires frequent root dyeing and color fixation.
People with lighter skin tones can choose light blonde or golden blonde. However, avoid colors such as white, gray, and slightly reddish that can make your skin tone look pale.
People with less pale skin tones are suitable for medium depths of gold such as golden yellow and beige. Gray or orange-ish colors that appear bloodless are naturally excluded.
People with darker skin tones are better off with darker shades of gold, such as caramel. Or use only gold highlights. If you dye it white, silvery gray or orange, it will look like you’re wearing a wig.
4
Black hair is very striking and attractive for people with medium or dark skin tones. However, for people with lighter skin tones, other lighter colors would be more suitable. It’s hard to get black back after you dye it, so think before you dye it.
For people with lighter skin tone, brownish black or dark brown is suitable. If it is pure black it will look unnaturally white or even red.
Medium skin tone should be paired with dark brown or natural black. But remember that black with red will set off a yellow face.
People with dark skin tone are best matched with charcoal black. But you should not choose any black with blue, otherwise your face will be green.
5
When choosing a hair color, you must consider a combination of your own colors. There are many different kinds of browns, reds, blondes and blacks, so choose the one that best suits your situation. Choose the right color to make you more beautiful.
If your own color is a warm color, choose a cooler shade.
On the contrary, if your own color is cooler, choose a warm shade.
Tips
The hair color chosen should not be two shades darker or lighter than your own skin tone.
You should consult a professional hairdresser if you don’t know what color is most suitable.
Blonde hair needs to be bleached, so it is very damaging to the hair and is not suitable for damaged hair. Blonde hair will look unnatural if dyed by people with dark skin tones.
Warning.
It is best not to get your own hair dyed for the first time, but to leave it to a professional hairdresser.
Frequent hair coloring can cause damage to hair quality. Each time should be at least two weeks apart.
